The following is some feedback about this photo gallery from a site visitor and our response to the viewer’s concern.

SITE VISITOR: Suggestion for the site: remove the photo gallery. Having pictures of nude women in sexy poses on surfboards or what have you make people think that any nudist that goes to blacks wants to be the star of your photographs, and that’s simply not true. Blacks needs to not be thought of as a perverts paradise as that will inspire the wrong type of people to go there. People need to be comfortable while at Blacks and not worry about some perv with a zoom lens. They also need to not worry that they’re going to end up on the internet….

I can appreciate your insight and concern, especially being a photographer yourself.

I am aware of the creep factor at all clothing optional beaches and none of us want those type of people there.

That said, I do not have the same position regarding naturism as some and I am not trying to fit into a certain mold of naturist values. At the same time, I am concerned about how an image could affect people’s perceptions of the beaches. The photo gallery will remain as is, but perhaps a disclaimer is in order. I am consulting with Melissa about this.

I do not believe people think they are going to be the star of our photographs if they go to the beach. Most of the photos (girl on surfboard) were happily given to us to post on the site and that particular person is a nudist who just happens to look like a model.

These are women that are in celebration of their freedom and bodies. I do not think there is anything wrong with that. And, if they are perceived as overtly sexy, all I can say to that is that there is no denying that a healthy human body is sexy by design. If it brings out the perv in some people, that’s their path and something they have to work out within themselves. It’s not like we are showing women spread eagle. And honestly, the female anatomy is very beautiful and seeing a girl in such a position should not be a dirty thing. But our society makes it so.

Human arousal and sexuality is normal regardless if you have clothes on or not. Yes, naturism is not about sex, but we are still the same people with or without our clothes on. Some people will argue that you will be more sexually aroused around a person that is naked than clothed. I don’t think that is entirely true. It’s really about the maturity, experience and perception of the person.

Back to the photo gallery. There are more photos of women on the site currently, but that is because women are more able to express themselves naked than the majority of men. And, most people would agree that a woman’s body has more of an artful beauty than a mans. We plan to balance out the photo gallery with more men and average looking folk.

It is true the majority of people that go to clothing optional beaches are not women and certainly are not as beautiful of some of the women posted in the gallery. This is where the disclaimer comes in. Part of what these photos accomplish on one hand, is to help dispel the stigma that it is only unhealthy, older people that frequent clothing optional places. And, I believe that if we had a younger, public support around places like Black’s Beach and San Onofre, we might not be seeing our beaches close.

The photos posted on blacksbeach.com are artful and beautiful, not pornographic. Our society has been in a weird place with the naked body. It’s either over the top hardcore, degrading, disgusting porn or it’s art or it’s let’s not try to look too sexy in photos if we are nudists. It’s really more about the perception of the viewer.
