Did you Know? – Nude Beach Legality
Black’s Beach was the first Legally swimsuit optional Beach in the Nation under an ordinance issued by the City Council of San Diego back in 1974. This ordinance was rescinded in 1977 due to the popularity vote of those who opposed nude beaches by no more than 55% of the votes.
Votes:
Against Swimsuit optional – 86,113
For Swimsuit optional – 70,884
Even though the polls instigated the removal of this ordinance after several years of being a legally swimsuit optional beach, those who were in favor of being nude continued to go nude.
Paul Omundson, who identified him as an occasional bather at Black’s Beach, said the vote “won’t stop us” from going suitless.
“There are little pockets of beach all along the coast where people will always go nude.” said Omundson, 28. “It’s an expression of freedom that can’t be outlawed.”
This is the very reason why we are all still attending Black’s Beach and many other beaches in the State of California along the coast even while nudity is prohibited!
